You've Been Given the Gift of Life, Give it Back!

Welcome friends and family!

Thank you for visiting my blog. It documents my amazing journey from pre to post double lung transplant. I am a 37 year old mother and wife with Cystic Fibrosis who has been more greatly blessed than I could ever imagine possible!

It has been a bumpy ride, but God has given me strength, love, friendship, and, FINALLY, health. My prayers have been answered, my miracle was granted, and I want to share the joy of my new life with you.

If you are a first time visitor, please take a moment to watch The Miracle of Transplantation video below. To me, pictures speak a thousand words.

My entries begin in April of 2008 and my double lung transplant was December 10. Scroll down to my blog archive and you can read from the beginning or jump around. If you are looking for a specific topic, you can use the search engine.

Please feel free to contact me with questions or feedback, I would love to hear from you!

I hope I can help you to experience the love God has for each and every one of us!

May God Bless You with Miracles in Your Life! Nancy

Spring has Sprung!

So, it is only March, and we had an 80 degree day yesterday.  I don't know whether to be thrilled or terrified.  I hope this isn't a sign that we will have a brutal summer.

For now, I am just enjoying it.  There is nothing like opening all the windows and letting the fresh air in, it just makes you feel healthy!

Look who already popped up to say hello!  I love the first flower of Spring!

CFCareForward Scholarship

This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the CFCareForward scholarship program that has honored young adults with cystic fibrosis (CF) as they pursue their dreams while living with a chronic disease. The program has now provided supplemental educational funding via more than 500 scholarships to students who are also challenged by the financial burden of their disease, enabling them to achieve their goals of higher education.

I was honored to receive a CF scholarship in college that eased the financial burden, and am thrilled to spread the word to other individuals with CF who could benefit from this wonderful scholarship program!

To celebrate the 20th year of the Scholarship, two $20,000 scholarships will be awarded to one undergraduate and graduate student for use during the 2012-2013 academic year. Forty students will be awarded a $2,500 Scholarship based on their achievements, essay and creative presentation submitted with the application. These students will then go on to compete in an online public voting contest to be named one of this year’s two Thriving Students.

Applications will be accepted until April 17, 2012 and are available online now at: www.CFCareForwardScholarship.com/apply.

About CFCareForward: Abbott is honored to continue the nearly 25-year commitment of helping people with CF manage their health. The CFCareForward program provides comprehensive nutritional, educational and financial support for patients living with CF and their families. I am so Behind!

So, how much more behind could I be?  I am so sorry that I lose time and don't post.  When last I wrote, I explained the whole story of how we ended up booking Jason Dunn to come to Olean.  Well, we recently secured a second venue at the Bethany Lutheran Church here in Olean, for Saturday, April 21.  This one is an all ages show, and we are hoping several families will come.  If you live close by and would like to have a great evening, check out the website: www.jasondunnislgd.blogspot.com for tickets and more info.

I have to tell you what I loved about the Lutheran Church's response to our invite for churches to sponsor this event.  Their Pastor contacted us and expressed their interest, and when I spoke with her, she acknowledged that their church's demographic may not be really interested, but they felt this was a great outreach program.  Isn't that how it should be, welcoming people who aren't necessarily just like us into our lives?  Her response eased my fear that maybe this wasn't God's plan at all, but our human desire.  I can't tell you how thankful I was for their truly selfless offer to serve!

We spent the last two days in Pittsburgh at appointments.  It has been decided that my most recent rounds of illness have been caused by Bronchitis.  Great, I go from Pseudomonas to Bronchitis!  Dr. Pilewski will be keeping his eye on this.

We did have a scare while at our visit.  In the middle of our appointment, Dr. Pilewski got an emergency message about a gunman being on the loose in the hospital next door:

UPMC officials have released some information about the people who were wounded in a gunfight today at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic.

Seven people are expected to survive injuries they suffered after a gunman entered the lobby of the clinic and opened fire. One person died, and the suspected gunman was killed by bullets fired by University of Pittsburgh police.

It is frightening to know something like that is happening right next door.  Please pray for the victims of this shooting.

We are home safe, and are now preparing for all of the St. Patrick's Day shows coming up this week; what a crazy, yet fun, time of the year this is!

My love and blessings to you all!  Nancy
